Employment Opportunities
INTERN – COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT (FALL 2009)
Responsibilities
The intern will assist the Registration staff in daily tasks and on going projects. Interns will receive professional guidance and mentoring in collections management and museum registration methods. Interns will be trained on Spertus’ computerized collections management system, MIMSY, learn object handling methods, and documentation of collections through digital photography. Collection based research may included in the internship.
Skills
As proper collections management is essential for a museum to function properly, the work of our interns is closely monitored and highly valued. Interns are expected to be professional, articulate, pleasant, and reliable.
Good computer skills, word processing, and database use. The intern should also be able to work independently, have organizational skills, and be a quick learner.
Other information
As Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies has just moved into a new facility, this is an exciting time for an intern to work at Spertus Museum, Chicago’s Jewish museum. The intern should have excellent research skills, should be detail-oriented, should have good communication skills, and should want to work with the public. At Spertus Museum, we believe in fostering community and have a dedicated team of museum professionals with strong mentoring abilities. In addition to this benefit, Spertus Museum regularly employs college-aged interns, so the intern will be part of a broader community of volunteers.
