About the Internship
Located in Chicago’s vibrant South Loop, Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies invites people of all ages and backgrounds to explore the multifaceted Jewish experience. Through innovative public programming, exhibitions, collections, research facilities and degree programs, Spertus inspires learning, serves diverse communities and fosters understanding for Jews and people of all faiths, locally, regionally and around the world.
An internship position is open in the Department of Institutional Outreach and Design, the department that handles marketing, public relations, and government and community relations for all Spertus divisions (Spertus Museum, Spertus College, the Asher Library, and the Spertus Shop).
Responsibilities
Position requires strong writing and computer skills, an obsession for detail, resourcefulness, and a strong interest in marketing, publicity and development in the nonprofit cultural arena. You should sound great on the phone, have general administrative skills, and relish new challenges. Internship is unpaid but arrangements for college credit may be available.

Projects include:
- Assistance with publicity and marketing for upcoming Spertus programs, including lectures, concerts, exhibitions, courses, and family programs
- Marketing upcoming programs through Social Media outlets
- Outreach to tourists and tour groups
- Creative copywriting for the gift shop section of the Spertus website
- Internet research—from finding new avenues for advertising and publicity opportunities to sponsored search marketing
- Assistance with formation of internal communication system for staff
- Tracking and filing of Spertus press coverage

The Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies — founded in 1924 and located in an award-winning new facility completed in November 2007 — is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Jewish thought and culture, and utilizing that legacy to impact the future. The Institute includes Spertus College, which grants masters and doctoral degrees; the Asher Library, one of the leading libraries of Judaica in the world; and Spertus Museum, the largest Jewish museum in the Midwest; and also offers a diverse array of public programming and amenities to students, visitors, and the general public.
