Hal M. Lewis

Hal Lewis

Hal M. Lewis is Dean of Public Programming and Continuing Education, and Associate Professor of Contemporary Jewish Studies at Spertus, where he earned his Doctor of Jewish Studies degree. Dr. Lewis is a recognized authority on leadership and has published widely on the subject in both the popular press and scholarly journals. He is the author of Models and Meanings in the History of Jewish Leadership and From Sanctuary to Boardroom: A Jewish Approach to Leadership. He has lectured at universities from Brandeis to the University of Illinois, Chicago, and is a popular scholar-in-residence for congregations and communal organizations. Before coming to Spertus, Professor Lewis served as the President and CEO of the Columbus Jewish Federation, the executive director of a major synagogue in Cincinnati and the executive director of the American Sephardi Federation in New York. He has taught at the University of Cincinnati and in the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.
