Judaic and Soncino Classics Library Help Page

Judaic and Soncino Classics Library is a searchable full-text  database of more than 50 basic books of the Bible, Talmud, Commentaries, Ethics, and Mysticism, in Hebrew and English.

The database may take a few moments to load, please be patient!

Regular users, please note this change: You do not need to toggle to Hebrew characters on your keyboard but you do need to know the layout of the Hebrew keyboard. Click here for a map of the Hebrew keyboard or to order keyboard stickers.

To search in Hebrew, you must be in a Hebrew text.

  • The search screen defaults to Talmud (English). You must get rid of this before you search.

>> Click Select on the upper left side of the screen.
>> Press the control button on your keyboard and
click on the highlighted (in blue) Talmud (English).

  • Choose the arrow to the left of the category of texts to open the subtexts.
  • Click on the title(s) you wish to search. You can search more than one text and more than one category of texts at the same time by holding down the control button on your keyboard when you click.
  • When a title is highlighted in blue it will appear in the upper left hand box. Screenshot>
  • Type a word or phrase into the search box on the right. Click Search.
  • A results list will open if your word or phrase is found. Screenshot>
  • Double click on a result to open the page. Screenshot>

  • Copy the text

On a PC: Edit > Copy or Ctrl-C or Right click to Copy selection to text
On a MAC: command-C or apple-C

  • A clipboard will appear that says: Click here to copy to local clipboard. Or, in the upper right hand section of your screen you should see a small clipboard- click on it. Screenshot>
  • If your selection is not already there, paste your text to the clipboard. Screenshot>

On a PC: Edit > Ctrl-V or Right click to Paste
On a MAC:  command-V or apple-V

  • From the clipboard you can highlight, copy, then paste into your word processing program. You may need to change the direction of the text after you have pasted it. (For example, if you're using Micosoft Office 2007, highlight the text and right justify.)
  • To clear your selection to start a new search, click the button that says Clear in the search box and in the text selection area. Then double click the text tection to close, just like you did to open the section. Continue to close subsections until you see all the sections again.

  • To see the Daf, click on Reference then Show the Daf. Screenshot >

Recommended browsers

Chrome is the recommended browser when using the Feinberg eCollection on a PC, particulary for DBS. In fact, we have found that using Chrome is necessary for the DBS database to function correctly. For Mac users, Safari will work.

This state-of-the-art, remote access collection of electronic resources is made possible through the generosity of Mr. Reuben Feinberg & The Joseph and Bessie Feinberg Foundation.
