This certificate documents circumcisions performed for one family by the self-described "famous specialist of circumcision," Rabbi Dr. Abel Lane. When the oldest Eisenman boys were born, the family lived in the Maxwell Street area, but by the time that the third son was born, the family had relocated to Wicker Park. Wicker Park was a clear improvement from the poor conditions around Maxwell Street. The Eisenman family was typical of many Eastern European Jews who settled initially on the Near West Side and moved west or northwest as their circumstances improved.
