Tour Outside Inside with the Artists as Your Guides.

This tour will be led by Stewart Cherlin, Charlotte Hart, Sandra Perlow, and Charles Rice.

Outside Inside: Exploring Boundaries and Otherness displays new works created by Spertus Institute's second Chicago cohort of the Midwest Jewish Artists Lab. This year-long initiative brought together twelve distinguished local artists for workshops, study, and critiques. During the course of the program, each participant created an artwork or series around the theme of boundaries.

Stewart Cherlin relies on his Jewish roots and knowledge of religious texts as inspiration for digital images. He has exhibited his photography-based works at venues including art fairs, cultural centers, and restaurants, as well as a solo show titled Capturing Holiness at Chicago’s Temple Sholom.

Charlotte Hart designs and creates drawings, paintings, and stained glass windows. She is also a poet, whose books of poetry include The Pegasus Ring, and a chapbook, Organic Spirits. Her work has been exhibited in a solo exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Drawing Center and the National Institute of Design in New York, at the Smithsonian Institute in DC, and in the Jerusalem Biennial.

Sandra Perlow is visual artist working in printmaking, painting, and collage. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including residencies at Yaddo in New York and the American Academy in Rome. She has lectured about her work at the Art Institute of Chicago and exhibited at Chicago's Linda Warren Galleries.

Charles L. Rice is a multidisciplinary artist living in Chicago whose work focuses on identity through performance and material objects. His work has been shown locally and nationally. Recently, his The Black Velvet Cocoonwas performed in POW!POW!POW!POW! Action & Performance Festival at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.
