The world around us can be complicated. How do we begin to understand and make sense of it? What questions might we ask to help us dig deeper, to get beneath the surface of what we see and hear? How can we flip our own lenses in order to identify and appreciate different, at times competing, perspectives?

With a focus on maps as a powerful tool for narrative and analysis, those who join us for this session will explore ways in which we can understand and visually represent the world around us. We will consider the decisions that we make in constructing these representations and the kinds of critical questions that inform and can be drawn from them.

Dr. Keren E. FraimanDr. Keren E. Fraiman is Spertus Institute’s Dean and Chief Academic Officer. She also holds a faculty appointment as Associate Professor of Israel Studies. She received her PhD in International Relations and Security Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her BA in Political Science and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from The University of Chicago. Her work has been supported by the US Institute of Peace.
