David N. Gottlieb, Spertus Institute's Director of Jewish Studies, teaches about Jewish identity and Jewish memory. He has taught at The University of Chicago and Claremont Lincoln University, where he helped develop the curriculum for the Masters in Interfaith Action concentration.

Gottlieb has written extensively for both academic and general-interest publications, including the Journal of Religion, the Toronto Journal of Jewish Thought, Shofar, and Tablet, among others. He served as founding executive director of Full Circle Communities, Inc., a nonprofit philanthropic developer of affordable housing and provider of social and supportive services to its residents.
