Gary Weinstein has spent his career working for Jewish organizations as a CEO, fundraiser, educator, and consultant. In his 44-year-career in the nonprofit world, he has raised more than $500 million for organizations doing critical work for our communities.
Since 2013, Weinstein has worked with Spertus Institute as an Adjunct Faculty Member and Mentor, following a four-year stint as Midwest Regional Director for Chicago's Birthright Israel Foundation in Chicago. In addition to his adjunct faculty responsibilities at Spertus, he is a consultant and an executive coach. As a local lay leader, Weinstein recently chaired the search committee for the Head of School at Addlestone Hebrew Academy and served on the Board of Synagogue Emanu-El near his home in Charleston, SC.
In previous positions, he spent 14 years as President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, a community of 60,000 Jews with an annual campaign of $11 million and Foundation assets of $150 million. Prior to that, he was Associate Vice-President and Campaign Director of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ (annual campaign of $25 million), Campaign Director for the Houston Federation (annual campaign of $9 million), and Assistant East Central Regional Director for United Jewish Appeal in Cleveland. He started his career working with young people, as a high school teacher, as City Director of Young Judea in Houston, and Regional Director for BBYO in Indianapolis.
In addition to his work for American Jewish organizations, Weinstein has studied and worked in Israel. He spent a year at Tel Aviv University, volunteered for the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) during the Yom Kippur War, and served as a Madrich-guide for Young Judea in Jerusalem.
