Dr. Dean P. Bell took the reigns as the 9th President and CEO of Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership following four years as Provost and Vice President. He previously served as Dean and Chief Academic Officer, a role he filled for many of the 23 years he has worked with Spertus Institute. He has overseen all of the Institute’s programmatic areas as well as institutional development, finance, and operations.

A leading voice for the advancement of Jewish higher education, Dr. Bell has served as President of the Midwest Jewish Studies Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Jewish Studies. He received his BA from the University of Chicago and his MA and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.

Widely published as a scholar and historian, Dr. Bell holds a Spertus Institute faculty appointment as Professor of History in addition to his administrative role. He has also served on the faculty at other prestigious institutions including Northwestern University, Hebrew Theological College, University of Illinois, and University of California.

Tributes in honor of Dr. Bell’s appointment will support new community-serving educational initiatives.
